The Society of Alumni and Friends is a resource to help ISU students entering the journalism profession, as well as for current alumni to network. Organized by Iowa State journalism grads, it is a group dedicated to mentoring and offering professional advice. Members of the Society:

• Provide information on internships and jobs
• Give tours of the workplace
• Review résumés
• Serve as guest speakers on campus and through teleconferencing
• Host networking events

Formed by the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, the organization is co-chaired by Caralee Johnson Adams, ’86, and Chris Adams, ’88, and is the brainchild of Greenlee Director Michael Bugeja.

“When I first arrived at the Greenlee School in 2003, I was surprised to hear students say at graduation that they were sad to leave Iowa State,” Bugeja said. “Leave? Graduation is not the end of the Cyclone journey but the beginning – the start of tapping into a network of alumni who not only love their alma mater but also help each other in the job market and profession.”

The Society is affiliated with and officially sanctioned by the Greenlee School; Greenlee faculty and staff are an important part of our networking events. However, the costs for the Society and all organizing activities are handled by outside volunteers.

There is no cost to join the Society. It is not a fundraising organization. The focus is on reconnecting alumni and mentoring students and young professionals. If you want to financially support Iowa State journalism, we suggest you direct your contributions to the Greenlee School. (However, if you still would like to financially support the Society, you may contact the co-chairs for helping pay for drinks or food at one of our networking events.)
