The Society of Alumni and Friends is an organization of Iowa State University Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication graduates dedicated to helping each other and our younger colleagues navigate the ever-changing media landscape.     Christine Romans ’93: Anchor, author makes the day last

    For most people, a full day of work in the news business that begins at 3:15 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m. tucking three kids under 5 into bed would be plenty. Not for Christine Romans: The 1993 Iowa State journalism graduate and current CNN anchor has written two personal finance books in the past two years.

    Greenlee Futures Forum set for 2011 Homecoming week

    The Greenlee School is hosting series of panel discussions and other events during the week of homecoming. Come listen to top political reporters and political professionals in a series of talks at the Memorial Union, on Thursday night and Friday. Topics include the Iowa caucuses, working in political journalism, working in politics, and new media strategies. Journalists (several of them ISU grads) who work in politics or for news organizations such as The Des Moines Register, The New York Times, NBC News, the Huffington Post, and the Associated Press will participate.

    Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 1, 2010, at Kansas City Star

    On Oct. 1, 2010, about 25 alumni and friends gathered in downtown Kansas City at the new production facility of the Kansas City Star. Several former and current Star reporters and editors were on hand, as well as grads from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and ’00s, and alumni involved in broadcast, marketing, public relations and other fields. The special guest was former KC Star and ISU professor Giles Fowler, who spoke about his recently published book on a 1909 Kansas City murder case.

    Kansas City gathering with guest Giles Fowler set for Friday

    A final reminder about the event Friday, Oct. 1, from 5-7 p.m., at the Kansas City Star production building at 1601 McGee St. in downtown Kansas City. We should have around 25-30 people, including folks from newspaper, PR, marketing, and other industries. We’ll have graduates from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and ’00s. Giles Fowler, a former ISU journalism professor and a former KC Star writer, will be there to give a short talk about his recent book. Please check out the event details and feel free to join us.
